I went to a Disney College Program informational session and went through the entire interview process, got accepted to the program then learned later on that the internship is paid but at $6 an hour and you have to pay for your own housing, which they provide. I didn’t think that was right, but that was in 2000, so it may have changed. Check out the website to learn more. Hopefully the pay is better. Not sure if the “experience” is really worth it…..

Well the college program experience is definitely worth it! Not many internship programs out there allow college student pay (even if it is low), housing, transportation, free admission into all of their parks, and discounts on all merchandise and restaurants on property! I did the college program in 2001. They paid $6 and hour. No we didn’t make much, but I had a wonderful time! I made lifelong friends, got to network with company execs, and even met my husband there! So if you are a college student, the WDW College program is the best way to work for Disney. You wouldn’t be a character though - that is done seperately and you have to audition for it. Cast members in the parks make about $7.50 an hour now and characters and entertainers make around $11-$14 an hour, depending on what is involved. A friend of mine was Pocahontas. She had her own show at Animal Kingdom, where she played with real animals and sang. She was paid $12 an hour back in 2001. I’m sure they pay a few dollars more an hour now.
But is the getting in for free that makes it all worth it. A disney World vacation can cost people thousands of dollars. You can work there and go anytime you like absolutely free! They even give you free passes about twice a year to give to your friends or family!
